調和 Chōwa — The Harmony Kanji

調和 — Chōwa. Harmony. Two characters, one idea: balance you make, not balance you find.

What it means

調 (chō) is to tune — the same character used for tuning an instrument or adjusting a recipe. 和 (wa) is harmony and peace; it is also the character Japan historically used for itself. Together they name harmony as an ongoing act of adjustment. Not stillness — tension, resolved and re-resolved.

Why we print it

That reading is the honest one for how clothing works: silhouette against fabric weight, graphic against negative space, a wide neck against a clean drop shoulder. Nothing in a good garment is at rest; it is tuned. Chōwa is the Shinsei line's argument written down.
